A superficial mild infection of the skin caused by CORYNEBACTERIA. It produces pink or slightly brown flaky areas of skin usually on the upper inner thighs or axillae. Toe clefts may be affected with thickened, white, macerated skin. The affected areas fluoresce coral pink under ultraviolet light. CLOTRIMAZOLE or KETOCONAZOLE cream generally clears the rash rapidly. Very extensive erythrasma may result in advice to take the antibiotic ERYTHROMYCIN.
