Inflammation of the ileum – the lower part of the small INTESTINE. It may be caused by CROHN'S DISEASE, typhoid fever (see ENTERIC FEVER), TUBERCULOSIS or the bacterium Yersinia enterocolitica. Ileitis may also accompany ULCERATIVE COLITIS (see also INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE (IBD)).
