The term applied to the larger divisions of various organs, such as to the four lobes of the LIVER, the three lobes of the right and the two lobes of the left lung, which are separated by fissures from one another (see LUNGS), and to the lobes or superficial areas into which the BRAIN is divided. The term lobar is applied to structures which are connected with lobes of organs, or to diseases which have a tendency to be limited by the boundaries of lobes, such as lobar PNEUMONIA.
