Inflammation in the substance of a BONE. Traumatic osteitis is a condition particularly common in sportsmen, in which the sufferer complains of pain in the groin following exercise, particularly if this has involved much hip rotation. Examination reveals difficulty in spreading the legs and marked tenderness over the symphysis pubis. It responds well to rest and the administration of NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen or indomethacin.
