An acronym for Varicella-Zoster immune globulin which is prepared from plasma of donors selected for having high levels of antibodies to varicella zoster virus (anti-VZV). It is used to provide temporary passive immunity to the virus in high-risk persons, who are known not to be immune and have been in contact with chickenpox. Broadly this includes pregnant women, babies born to a recently infected mother and patients with IMMUNODEFICIENCY.
