An aid to support the weight of the body for a person unable to bear weight on one of his or her legs. Made of wood or metal, usually long enough to reach from the person's armpit to the ground, it has a concave surface that fits under the arm and a cross-bar for the hand. An elbow crutch provides weight-bearing support using the forearm and elbow and is usually recommended when the leg can take some weight.
