A group of inherited disorders that weaken the connective tissues that support skin, bones, blood vessels, and other organs. It results in hypermobile joints, soft, easily stretchable skin with fragile capillaries leading to frequent bruising, abnormal wound healing and scarring. There may be other affected family members. Its degree varies from very mild to life-threatening. Treatment involves managing symptoms with medicines and physical therapy and advice on how to protect joints and prevent injuries.
